Fischer Travis Henry was born Friday, December 21st at 10:47 pm. He weighed 9 lbs 7 oz and was 21 1/2 inches long.
The pregnancy went without a hitch until the very last week. On Sunday, Dec. 16th, 3 days before my due date, I began to developed a rash...by the due date it covered most of my body. Since Fischer was plenty big and full term, the doctor decided to induce because the rash would only continue to spread until delivery.
Thursday evening I checked in at the hospital to begin the process of induction. Friday morning at 8:00 am, although I had already begun labor around 4:30 am, Pitocin was administered to help labor along. Everything was moving along slowly but steadily until around 1:00 pm when I developed a fever and signs of infection. But with antibiotics, the doctors still thought everything would progress just fine. However, by 9:00 pm I reached 8 cm and quit progressing. At 10:30 pm I began swelling instead of dilating. At this point there was no way to fix what was happening, which meant I couldn't deliver a baby of any size, much less the chunk I was carrying!
I signed the papers at 10:30pm, and Fischer was born by emergency c-section at 10:47 pm. He then spent the next 3 days in the NICU on oxygen for a deflated lung and antibiotics to fight any fever or infection he may have acquired from me. I also spent those three days pumped full of antibiotics to fight my infection, so we did not see much of each other. Thankfully, we have a mighty God who answered many prayers. Fischer's lung repaired itself and he did not develop any infection. We were both released on Christmas Eve to come home together. He is the best Christmas present we could ever imagine! He is doing wonderful and I am also doing well as I recover from surgery.
Thank you all for your prayers, cards, emails, and concern through this special time in our lives. I hope to see you all very soon!
